We arrived in Edinburgh on Sunday morning very jet lagged
after not sleeping on the plane. We took
the city bus to Waverly Station and moseyed toward our hotel, stopping along
the way to buy a UK phone. The young man
at the Vodaphone store was very helpful and placed the paperwork in a “wee
envelope”…. I could listen to these people talk forever!!!
Our hotel is lovely, we had a chat in the sitting room while
waiting for housekeeping to finish readying our room. Our host James brought us a pot of tea and
took our bags up. The rest was welcome
but our day was slipping away. After we
unpacked we walked back up to Waverly station and caught an on and off bus tour
to get a lay of the land. We had dinner
at Saigon Saigon, food was good … service was poor .. then back to the room
where we collapsed into bed! I had been
up for 35 hours!

We had booked a photography tour with James Christie, a
local photographer, for Monday morning at 10:00. We met at the monument on the top of Calton
Hill, quite a strenuous walk. The tour
ran from 10:00 to 2:00, we were taken to some good locations and told how to
make the shot….and given a bit of Edinburgh history as well. James walked at a good clip and by 2:00 pm I
was ready to collapse! We met up with
Ann Rod and Robert, our Journey Anatolia friends, had some cake, drove to the
Britania and did a bit of site seeing, driving to the bridges over the Firth of
Forth, before having dinner at a fish place.
Bed felt really good!
Tuesday was our last day in Edinburgh. We met up with Ann
and Rod who drove us around Edinburgh to places we wouldn’t have otherwise
seen; Dean Village on the waters of Leith.
Of course, we took pictures and ended up at the National Gallery of
Modern Art where we had a bit of cake and coffee. The day had been beautiful when we awoke but
was raining when we came out of the museum. Ann and Rod left for home in Dumfries and
Robin and I donned our raingear and went to Edinburgh Castle. Afterward we had dinner in a Kurdish
restaurant. I had pomegranate rice. It was good but very tart, an interesting new
taste experience, but one I wouldn’t necessarily repeat.
